Job Detail:
Assists in a variety of communication-related activities in a busy communications office. Responsibilities will include some or all of the following: writing and/or editing news, informational and promotional content; basic to intermediate graphic design; videography and basic to intermediate video editing; social media posting and strategy (including monitoring social media accounts and responding appropriately); photography; event participation; and communication planning and strategy development. This creative thinker will participate in brainstorming sessions, share ideas and be able to work independently without constant supervision. As a team player, this person will minimally handle some general office work and other duties as assigned. To a degree, the position can be shaped to reflect the student’s strengths and interests. Position advancement along with increased compensation and responsibilities upon each year of successful employment. A great position to prepare a student for a communications career.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Strong work ethic, deadline and detail oriented, with ability to take on responsibility and work independently; good customer relation skills; reliable self-starter with good decision-making skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must have a mix of some of the following skills and knowledge: excellent writer (and editor/proofreader) with knowledge of AP style and experience writing a variety of content types (news, features, press releases, web content, promotions, etc.); interviewing and research skills for story content; avid use of social media platforms with experience in and understanding of social media trends and concepts; ability to record and draw conclusions from social media analytics and recommend strategy based on conclusions; competency in graphic design, illustration and/or layout with knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); knowledge of MSU brand standards; photography skills; proficiency in video shooting and editing, including knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Premiere and Encore. Microsoft Office skills. Prefer student from College of Communication Arts and Sciences, College of Arts and Letters or related program.
