maintenance and installation of plant material, cut weeds, brush, and grass using hand and power equipment. operate equipment used in landscape maintenance. apply herbicides and pesticides to landscape beds and lawns. install signage, site furniture, edging and boulders. grading, digging, back filling, hauling, mowing, hoisting and loading operations with power driven equipment. assist with installation and maintenance of irrigation systems. grading, seeding and sodding lawn areas. transplant trees, shrubs, flowers. operate and perform regular maintenance to vehicles, oil checks, grease fittings, tire pressure, etc. maintain and install erosion control devices. shoveling, raking, etc. football tailgate clean up. erect and maintain barricades, warning signs, fences and gates. Work with and assist other Landscape Services Department crews.
1 year experience performing bed maintenance and installation of landscape construction projects or an approved equivalent. Working knowledge and ability to use common hand tools and power tools used in landscaping. Possession or attainment of a MSU forklift operator's permit within 3 months of hire date. basic computer knowledge and terminology. Possession or attainment of a valid Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification in categories Turf (3A), Ornamental (3B), and Right of Way within six (6) months of hire. Good driving record and submit operator's license number on application for motor vehicle check. Ability to work in variable or severe weather conditions, be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays. Frequent lifting over 75 pounds.
