Job Detail:
On-call mechanic position involving maintenance of the University fleet vehicles and assisting the full-time Service Garage professional staff. Requires interaction with University customers and Transportation Services staff. Excellent opportunity to develop vehicle maintenance and customer service skills. Job duties include, but not limited to, changing oil; mount, balance and repair tires; assist full time mechanic staff; wash vehicles; pickup parts from local vendors; shuttle vehicles to dealers for warranty work; service calls on campus for no-starts and flat tires; shop-clean up; etc.
Completion of high school education is required. One year of experience in automotive maintenance; knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of basic skilled trades work. Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license is necessary. Occasional lifting up to 75 pounds is required.
Experience and knowledge of MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities Transportation Services processes and procedures; knowledge of university policies and practices. Ability to provide outstanding customer service. Experience with automotive, light and medium duty truck maintenance, including tire service/replacement and related equipment, lube oil and filter service, battery replacement, automotive hoist operation, hand and power tool use. Auto/light truck lighting services: bulbs, fuses, basic electrical wiring and component replacement. Exceptional communication skills to assist customers and service garage staff.
