Building Services

Building Services provides an array of different services for the buildings on MSU’s campus including:

Commissioning Services

IPF's Commissioning Services team conducts a comprehensive engineering analysis of the operation and performance of a building’s systems, including HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and lighting systems. The systematic process ensures building performance, reduces energy use, improves indoor air quality and meets occupants' needs. Learn about the commissioning process.

Maintenance Services

Maintenance Services operates and maintains academic and administrative buildings, utility distribution systems and performs related services. Maintenance Services is divided into four different areas: Materials and Logistics, Project Services, Skilled Trades and Central Control. See the service guide.

Central Control

Central Control, part of Building Services, is the hub for monitoring heating, cooling and electrical systems in more than100 buildings across campus. Using the Building Automation System, the crew identifies patterns and adjusts how systems run to optimize energy use. The energy consumption page gives specifics about the system.

Materials and Logistics

Materials and Logistics provides moving services and event support for the campus community. The Set-Up crew moves and installs furniture in offices and sets up tables, chairs and other requested event equipment. Services are also available for any other logistical need that is required by campus departments.

Project Services

Project Services provides management, design and technical support for multi-craft alterations and improvements, maintenance projects and campus emergencies that are typically performed by Maintenance Services 999 Skilled Trades labor force. Each project is fully managed, including providing estimates, design and material procurement, by one Planner/Inspector/Analyst. In addition, the department also manages the preventative maintenance program and issues all of the work orders for funded and customer-owned equipment.

Skilled Trades

A wide variety of skilled labor in metalworking, electrical, electronics, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, carpentry, roofing, masonry, key shop, welding, steam, distribution, painting and glazing trades are available for departmental facilities and projects.
