I received a call from a woman named Elizabeth, who “literally” grew up in Spartan Village. When her father graduated from MSU when she was 10-years-old, they moved. She grew up going to the MSU Dairy Store, Small Animals Day, the Planetarium and other MSU attractions. Elizabeth returned to MSU and received her medical degree – her son was 8-years-old when she moved out of Spartan Village for the second time. Today, Elizabeth returned to campus as a seminar keynote speaker. She was thrilled to know that the only phone number she could remember for MSU still has a live person answering it.

“You don’t know how many times this number helped me throughout my entire life. Calling you and coming back to campus is like coming back to my hometown.”

In a voicemail message, James Gargoshian, MSU physics student, indicated that he had spoken with Morene Dickman, university operator. Gargoshian said that Dickman had been very helpful – she answered many questions and was a well of knowledge. Gargoshian was new to MSU and Dickman helped him understand cultural questions and spent time answering questions on several subjects. He appreciated all she did and wished that there were more employees like Dickman. Dickman was praised for being polite, well-mannered and professional.

Today I had a conversation with a customer who was a writer looking to do a story on the Eli Broad College of Business. I helped him retrieve a phone number and proceeded to have a lengthy chat with him about the different departments on campus. I also guided him through msu.edu, and how he could search departments, find contact people, as well as phone numbers for different areas throughout the departments. At the end of the conversation he expressed his appreciation for the time I took to help him and that he is an alumni who is glad to see that his donations were going toward a good cause. He also said that this guaranteed his contributions in years to come.
