MSU Union – North Neighborhood Engagement Center and Multicultural Center

Project phase: Archived

The North Campus Neighborhood Engagement Center was temporarily located on the third floor and the Multicultural Center was located on the ground floor of the MSU Union. It was important to create a visible and accessible Engagement Center and Multicultural Center that speaks to the goal of intercultural engagement. This Engagement Center provides services to the north campus residential neighborhood and to off campus students. The placement of the Multicultural Center in a more visible and accessible location, with expanded capacity and features, serves as a beacon to share and celebrate the values of diversity and inclusion of the campus community and beyond.

Project details:

  • Creation of various semi-private and private group meeting/study spaces.
  • Creation of neighborhood support offices and program space on the second floor, south wing and on the ground floor of the MSU Union.
  • Relocation of the multicultural center to a larger more prominent space on the second floor.
  • Meeting rooms located on the second floor were relocated to the third floor.
  • Classrooms displaced from the third floor were relocated to the ground floor.

The MSU Union - North Neighborhood Engagement Center and Multicultural Center project is located on the corner of Grand River Avenue and Abbott Road in the North Academic District.
