IPF’s Sean O’Connor receives Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award
June 5, 2015
Michigan State University Infrastructure Planning and Facilities is pleased to announce that Sean O’Connor, manager, MSU IPF Landscape Services, is one of the winners of the 2015 Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award at MSU.
To be nominated, an MSU employee must demonstrate strong and innovative leadership and embody the Spartan Spirit. The MSU IPF Landscape Services department collaborated to nominate O’Connor because he exemplifies those qualities. The nomination letter was written by Therese Nugent but includes thoughts and input from others and was signed by 51 Landscape Services team members.
O’Connor had given 45 years of service to the university before accepting the management position for MSU IPF Landscape Services two years ago. In her nomination letter, Nugent wrote, “Mr. O’Connor has lifted up Landscape Services by giving the workforce a voice and working towards equality between management and labor.”
The award ceremony was June 1 at the Breslin Student Events Center, where O’Connor was recognized along with the other MSU employees who won this year’s Jack Breslin award. A video was shown about O’Connor and his work.
“For me, it was very humbling and a little bit embarrassing. When receiving an award like this, it’s because the people around me are working very hard, but I’m the one up here,” O’Connor said. “I’m very grateful that they recognized me, but they all deserve recognition, too.”
Congratulations to IPF’s Sean O’Connor, who demonstrates the true Spartan Spirit through his continued service to the university.
