Avaya messaging service

The Avaya messaging service allows you to send and receive text and multimedia messages (SMS and MMS) from your MSU phone number. By subscribing to the service you can receive SMS messages destine to your 10-digit phone number on your computer or cell phone. The service is perfect for communicating with students, employees and community members who use texting on their cell phones.

We are offering the service as two options:

Personal access

  • Access messages via an application (Windows, Mac OSX, iOS, Android, web). The applications works similar to an instant message application such that when people send you messages a pop-up shows up so you can send and receive threaded messages.
  • Use case:  Individuals or departments can use this application with their existing phone numbers. You no longer have to give out your personal cell phone number to send messages, and you can receive the messages people are probably already sending to the number. You can have multiple people logged into one account.
  • Billing: Your department account is billed directly per number you wish to use with the service, including unlimited messages.

API access

  • Have applications send and receive text messages as notifications to employees, customers, etc. Uses a REST API that can be triggered from your applications to send to multiple people at once. Can also build a two-way system for people to use for 2-factor authentication, notification systems, group chat systems, etc.
  • Use Case: Built for programmers to extend their existing applications to enable text messaging.  This service is not to be used for bulk-messaging or bulk-advertising (all users must be opt-in).
  • Billing: Your department account is billed directly per number you wish to use with the service, including unlimited messages.
