Refrigeration services

Refrigeration services handles the maintenance and repair of refrigeration and absorption equipment and machinery, as well as the chemical water treatment in HVAC systems.

Refrigeration

Refrigeration services is responsible for the maintenance and repair od equipment that uses Freon for mechanical refrigeration in the cooling process. Equipment includes walk-in freezers and coolers, refrigeration display cases, ice machines, air dryers, window air conditioners, growth chambers and chillers used for air conditioning and other processes.

Absorption

Refrigeration services is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of 36 absorption chillers on campus ranging in size from 400 to 1350 tons of cooling. The absorption chillers cool water for air conditioning in multiple buildings across campus.

HVAC water treatment

Refrigeration services is responsible for the chemical water treatment in HVAC systems that use water as a heat transfer medium. These systems include cooling towers, chilled water and hot water heating loops. The chemical treatment is used to control corrosion, scaling and to maintain biological control of harmful bacteria in the water that is used for heat transfer in the HVAC systems.
