Get to know IPF: Nicole Milam
Aug. 29, 2018
Nicole Milam, office assistant III, was recently hired at IPF to help focus on the day-to-day operations of IPF’s Power Plant and provide support to other staff members.
“It’s always challenging starting a new job,” Milam said. “Everything is new. My position is brand new, so it’s been a learning process.”
Milam moved from Arizona to Michigan due to the job opportunity — and it also helped that her daughter also started MSU this year as a freshman. She was originally born in Lansing, but moved to Arizona when she was young.
“I have a lot of family here still, so we would come back to visit often,” she said. “But I wanted to reconnect with my family and also stay close to my daughter.”
Even from Arizona, Milam mentioned her family always cheering for the Spartans.
“I’m still learning a lot about MSU,” she added. “Outside of football and basketball, I didn’t know much about the university. Quite honestly I didn’t even know we had a power plant. But I really like how it seems that MSU is its own community.”
Outside of being a Spartan, Milam has many years of administrative support experience. She worked for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America as well as the City of Phoenix. She also owned her own personal training business.
“My background is pretty diverse but mostly in administrative support,” she said. “I would say I’m motivated in that I’m always looking for a new way of doing things.”
