UPDATED JANUARY 12, 2020 (6:47 PM)

As of 1:30 PM today, the winter storm has passed and flood level predictions have been revised lower, with the river level now expected to peak 7.6 feet sometime around 1 PM., Monday, January 13. Some sidewalks and low-lying areas along the Red Cedar River will continue to be impacted by the rising water level, but no road closures are expected.

Please call (517) 353-1760 to report problem areas on campus.

UPDATED JANUARY 11, 2020 (7:00 PM)

Multiple sidewalks closed due to flooding.

The following sidewalks and parking area have been closed due to flooding:

  • Under the Farm Lane bridge near the Auditorium and the MSU Bike Shop
  • Behind the MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel
  • North of the Business College Complex
  • Various parking spaces in the Jenison Field House parking lot

Please do not attempt to travel on walkways that are closed off. The water depth and speed over the walkways may be deceptive.

Also please take your time when traveling throughout campus over the next few days. Give yourself ample time to get to and from your destination. Pedestrians, make eye-contact with vehicle operators before entering the roadway, and know that it may take significantly more time for larger vehicles to stop in snowy, wet or icy conditions.

Ice caused by freezing rain can rapidly add weight to branches causing limbs and debris to fall without warning. Please do not put yourself in danger walking under trees if at all possible. Do not attempt to move or clean up debris as it could be hazardous to your safety. Roadways, sidewalks, parking lots and all other public spaces will continue to be monitored by our crews.

If assistance is needed, or if you need to report hazardous spots on campus, please dial (517) 353-1760. IPF is available 24/7.
