12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

The League of Women Voters of Tecumseh/Lenawee County, in partnership with Hidden Lake Gardens, presents the 2nd annual Earth, Water & Sky, taking place at Hidden Lake Gardens on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. This family friendly event is a celebration of natural resources and will feature speakers, a tree planting ceremony, and the option to visit the Reach for the Sky Canopy Walk.

Earth, Water & Sky will focus on climate change and one of our most valuable natural resources: trees. Beginning at 12:30 pm, Erin Ashley, Channel 13 Action News Weekend Meteorologist, will speak about climate and weather changes in our community. Immediately following Erin, Lee Andre will present the benefits of solar power. And finally, Paul Pfeifer, Managing Director of Hidden Lake Gardens, closes with a discussion on native trees.

In addition to the featured speakers, a tree planting ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m. A tree will be planted on the grounds of HLG in honor of Jack and Jeannine Wikle. For many years, Jack was the curator of the HLG bonsai collection. Jeannine, who recently passed away, was a dedicated volunteer at HLG and long-time supporter of the Bonsai Collection. At the end of the ceremony, complimentary tree seedlings will be handed out to those in attendance.

Attendees of Earth, Water & Sky can also explore the grounds at HLG, including the Reach for the Sky Canopy Walk. This 374-foot-long suspension bridge allows visitors to experience the tree canopy and connect with nature at a whole new level. The canopy walk is located 1/2 mile from the Visitors’ Center; appropriate footwear is recommended.

Registration for this event is now closed. Information tables will be set up in the Visitors’ Center highlighting the League of Women Voters, Hidden Lake Gardens, and the River Raisin Watershed Council. A photo gallery highlighting the work of photography students from the LISD Tech Center will be on display featuring images taken at Hidden Lake Gardens. Also, the Cindy Lu Kitchen food truck will be on site during Earth, Water & Sky. Salads, wraps, smoothies, and beverages will be available to purchase outside. Hidden Lake Gardens is located at 6214 Highway M-50, Tipton, Michigan 49287.
