It's Women in Construction Week
March 9, 2022
March 6—12, 2022 is Women in Construction Week (WIC Week). WIC Week was started by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in 1998, and its goal is to celebrate, educate, and promote the role of women in the construction industry.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up 9.9 percent of the construction industry in the United States.
To help us celebrate, take a look at some stories that highlight the work of women not only in construction but in the larger umbrella of skilled trades.
- Skilled Spartan Women
- Supporting Women in the Trades: WIST mentorship
- Profiles in Power: Donna Jones and Cher Briggs
If you're a woman looking to get involved in construction or the skilled trades, there are a number of resources available in the Lansing area.
- WIST Michigan
- Michigan Construction Careers scholarships and apprenticeships
- Pure Michigan Talent Connect: Going Pro with Skilled Trades
This year's WIC Week theme is "Envision Equality," which seeks to raise awareness of opportunities for women in a wide range of roles in the construction industry. To learn more, visit the WIC Week website.
