Conservatory
Step into a world of lush greenery and exotic plants at the Hidden Lake Gardens Conservatory, a year-round oasis of natural beauty. Originally constructed in 1968, this breathtaking space was made possible through the generosity of Ray Herrick and designed by MSU architects to showcase diverse plant life from around the world.
The Conservatory features three distinct biomes:
Tropical Dome – Towering at 40 feet, this vibrant space is home to lush rainforest plants, including coffee, banana, palm, and cocoa trees. Feel the warmth and experience the sights and scents of the tropics!
Arid Dome – A striking collection of cacti, succulents, and desert flora thrive in this sun-drenched environment, where you can explore the beauty of drought-tolerant plants.
Temperate House – Bursting with colorful blooms and foliage, this inviting space is designed to inspire gardeners and plant lovers alike. A visit here is a refreshing escape, especially during Michigan’s colder months, most especially during the popular annual Spring Flower Show each March.
From its origins as a vision for a world-class botanical collection to its stunning renovations and restorations, the Conservatory remains a must-visit destination. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat, botanical inspiration, or an educational experience, the Conservatory at Hidden Lake Gardens offers something special for every visitor.
Come explore this hidden gem and immerse yourself in nature’s beauty—no matter the season!
