University motor pool vehicles allow for hands-free device use

IPF Transportation Services is reminding drivers about a new state law that prohibits using a mobile device while operating a vehicle

To avoid getting a ticket, motor-vehicle operators must either get to their destination before answering a phone call or text message, or use a vehicle’s hands-free option. Using a mobile device without a hands-free connection in any way, including a navigation app, will be prohibited. Calls to 911 are allowed.

Most of the 400 vehicles in the motor pool available for short-term rentals and long-term leases offer a hands-free connection to a mobile device so university staff who use them still can make calls or use navigation apps legally. Ask staff about connecting your device with the vehicle.

Transportation Services administers MSU’s fleet of more than 1,100 vehicles, including charter bus services, as well as offering vehicle fueling and full-service auto repair.
