Munn Ice Arena - expansion (CP18134)- update
- Project milestones:
- Mobilization of construction trailer and equipment is complete.
- Clearing of earth is complete.
- Site excavation has commenced.
- Demolition of south building exterior is complete.
- Impact updates:
- East/west sidewalk is closed at the south side of Munn, with pedestrian detours in place.
- The south entrance to Munn is closed.

Cowles House - Addition 3 and site renovations (CP17186) - update
- Project milestones:
- Demolition is nearing completion.
- New foundations and interior framing installations are underway.
- Impact updates:
- Site barricading with pedestrian and traffic controls ongoing.
- Facility operations to resume upon completion, March 2020.

Water distribution - campus water system improvements (CP16086) - update
- Project milestones:
- Water tank was raised to the top of its concrete support pedestal on Aug. 9.
- Water Treatment Plant exterior is complete. Remaining sitework and final paving will be completed by the end of September.
- Interior work in the Water Treatment Plant is nearing completion. Testing, balancing and commissioning the various systems will happen from mid-September through October.
- Impact updates:
- Water tank roof will be installed and painted during September.
- The center derrick crane, used to construct the tower, will be removed.
- Interior of water tank will be painted and disinfected, ready for operation in early November.

Music Building Addition (CP17077) - update
- Project milestones:
- Brick veneer application is underway.
- Rehearsal Room finishes and glazing installation has begun.
- Interior renovation work to support fall class activity is 90% complete.
- Impact updates:
- Pedestrian travel diagonally through the site is being maintained.
- Noise impacts due to typical construction activity are expected throughout the project.

- Building construction is substantially complete.

Streamlining processes cuts construction planning time
The MSU Board of Trustees recently revised the university's Capital Project Planning and Approval Policy. The revision, initiated by Infrastructure Planning and Facilities’ Planning, Design and Construction department staff increases the threshold for Board of Trustees’ approval of construction projects from $1 million to $5 million and effectively shortens the planning time for many projects.

You too can become a Waste Warrior!
Waste Warriors are faculty and staff members who are committed to help campus reduce, reuse, recycle and refurbish materials. Those who sign up for the program will be offered additional waste diversion services such as surplus item collection, composting, and glass and Styrofoam recycling.

Opportunities for women in the skilled trades industry
The Lansing State Journal recently published a picture gallery titled "The Women in Professional Trades" which included four of Team IPF's finest; preventative maintenance worker Courtney Hasse, maintenance mechanic Sheryl Shay, mason April Toune and trades helper Lindsay Hasse. Theirs' are but a few of the many stories of successful women employed in the skilled trades.
Women who are interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades should check out the Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) Facebook page. There you will find information about their Apprenticeship Readiness Program, which prepares women for successful careers in the skilled trades industry, and provides opportunity to connect with other tradeswomen.

MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center's ten-year anniversary
The SSRC celebrates its tenth year at the Green Way facility, and you get the presents!
From Sept. 5 through 13, their "Tenth Anniversary Triumph" will include unique sales, tours and other events designed to engage the MSU community and valued customers. There will be sales in different departments including computers, MSU memorabilia/art, industrial and lab equipment, furniture, household items and Spartan UpCycle brand products.
MSU Athletics fans will get great deals on a large selection of Spartan athletic apparel on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Bogue Street protected bike lanes open
On Thursday, Aug. 15, a ribbon-cutting event was held for the opening of the Bogue Street protected bike lanes project. On hand were university President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., Provost June Youatt, Executive Vice President Satish Udpa and East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows.
This pilot project will continue through Oct. 31, at which time it will be evaluated for its effectiveness at improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Electrical commodity contracts result in powerful savings
Last summer, IPF Materials and Logistics, working in close collaboration with University Services – Purchasing, established the first commodity purchasing contracts in IPF history, which have saved the university over $26,000 to date.

Turbine refurbin' keeps energy surgin'
Every year, Power and Water staff members perform an overhaul of one of the five steam turbine/generators at the T.B. Simon Power Plant. This preventative maintenance work is crucial to ensuring the university, its students, staff and research activities are supplied with reliable electric service.
